We had so much fun on our trip out west

Sand Dune Arch Southwest Landscape by Patty Ann Sykes

Sand Dune Arch (Arches National Park) ©Patty Sykes 12x16 Oil on Canvas

Arches National Park had a variety of arches.  We
hiked to the Sand Dune Arch and were so amazed
at God’s handiwork.  A natural arch is formed when
deep cracks penetrate into a sandstone layer.  Erosion
wears away the exposed rock layer and the surface
cracks expand isolation narrow sandstone walls or fins.
Water, frost and other tensions in the rock causes crumbling
and flaking.  The resulting holes become enlarged to form
an arch proportions determined by rockfalls and weather.
I find this very fascinating.  Everything is a process just
like painting.

I hope you enjoy!

Southwest Datura Floral Painting by Patty Ann Sykes

Southwest Datura ©Patty Sykes 10x10 Oil on

While on vacation out west last year, we came across
this lovely flower.  It is called Datura or Jimson Weed.
It looks similar to the Angel Trumpet but grows much
like a morning glory. It is very poisonous and it was
located growing in the sand. A beauty in the desert.

I hope you enjoy!
